When the active phase of the world’s transition to a new system of world relations begins, some events begin to acquire a vivid symbolic meaning.

The collapse of Syria and Assad’s flight to Moscow, the gathering of the leaders of the Catholic world in Paris for the opening of the restored Notre Dame Cathedral and the arrival of the atheist Jew Zelensky in rather strange costume at the Catholic service, elections as manifestations of political crises in Moldova, Romania, Georgia and the self-inflicted removal from power of the president of South Korea…

Of all these events, the fall of the Assad regime was the most significant, the most important in terms of consequences not only for the Middle East, but also for Europe, Africa, the Caucasus and Central Asia, China and Russia, and it was the upcoming rise to power of Donald Trump in the United States that played an important role in triggering the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria.

Death of Prigozhin, the future of the “Wagner” Group and the Global South

I finished writing this article on August 23, in the late afternoon, and immediately sent the material to some readers, including Sir Malcolm Rifkind and Lady Olga Maitland, and also published it on my website and Facebook, and then decided to walk the dog. Before leaving home, I read the latest news from Russia that there was unconfirmed information that the plane with Yevgeny Prigozhin was shot down, and that Prigozhin could be in this plane. An hour later, it became clear that the two leaders of Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the director, and Dmitry Utkin (Wagner), the head of the assault squads, had died.

I decided not to change the text of the article that I finished writing minutes before the death of Prigozhin and Utkin, but to make few additions (part 5, about who is behind the murder of Wagner leaders and how that murder can change the fate of the Wagner Group).

Story of PMC “Wagner”

Some of the processes that are taking place in the sphere of international relations are becoming important factors influencing the internal political situation Russia. These external factors are superimposed on two main internal factors that started military-political crisis in Russia:

1. The war in Ukraine that brought aggravation of conflict between the forces that demand the revival of the Russian Empire, on the one side, and the liberal pro-Western group that seeks to preserve the current regime and integrate Russia back into the world system dominated by the USA and Western Europe.

2. The struggle between elite clans for the post of the President of the Russian Federation that got out of the Kremlin’s control. Wartime made the Russian military important actor in political struggle, and the influence of the armed forces is intensifying with every day of the war in Ukraine.
