«The Secret Story of Communism in Russia» Book

The book is divided into two parts.

Part 1: “The Moral Genome of Bolshevism”

The author recounts his 1988–89 work as a graduate student at the Academy of Social Sciences under the CPSU, studying the secret history of Russian communism and the philosophical legacy of Alexander Malinovsky (Bogdanov), the early Bolshevik leader. Bogdanov, a founder of the Communist Party and member of the Bolshevik Troika with Lenin and Krasin, aimed to advance Marxism through contemporary science, which led to a rift with Lenin. Ultimately, Lenin expelled Bogdanov, who then focused on scientific work, founding «Tectology (the Science of Organization)» and pioneering the Proletkult movement. Bogdanov’s ideas influenced genetics, systems theory, cybernetics, and even space technology.

After Lenin’s death, his earlier polemics with Bogdanov became the basis for Leninism, the USSR’s official ideology, for political reasons. However, Lenin later softened his stance and encouraged Krasin to rejoin the Party. By adopting Leninism and obscuring Bogdanov’s contributions, the CPSU leadership, the author argues, harmed the socialist economy, especially in planning and administration, contributing to the USSR’s collapse.

Part 2: Historical Backgrounds

This section contains four studies:

  1. “The Secret History of the Communist Party of Russia” Details the Bolshevik Party’s formation and the roles of Bogdanov, Lenin, Krasin, and Stalin. The author examines the Revolution, Civil War, and early Soviet years, highlighting how Lenin and later leaders often made decisions that diverged from Marxist predictions due to unforeseen circumstances. Soviet propaganda and scholarship distorted these choices and their outcomes.
  2. “The Criminal World of Tsarist Russia and the Bolsheviks”
  3. “The Creation of a Shadow Crypto-State within the USSR” These studies explore the links between the Russian criminal underworld and the Bolsheviks, the rise of a shadow economy, and Stalin’s efforts to suppress criminal organizations within the state. The author argues that the communist bureaucracy evolved into a distinct class, creating a shadow state that eventually orchestrated a coup in the mid-1980s, dismantling the Communist Party and privatizing state assets.
  4. “The Creation of the VChK-OGPU Corporation” Examines the influence of former imperial officers in the October Revolution, the formation of the Red Army, and the creation of Soviet intelligence agencies like the VChK. The author traces the evolution of the Cheka-OGPU-KGB Corporation, analyzing why Lenin and Stalin expanded the security services, contrary to Marxist principles. This led to bureaucratic dominance over the KGB, GRU, and Armed Forces, and ultimately to the rise of the Cheka-OGPU-KGB-FSB Corporation in modern Russia.
